Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre will be operating a COVID-19 Immunization Clinic to allow for an expanded administration of vaccine as directed by the Provincial Task Force. We are working collaboratively with the Thunder Bay District Health Unit, and other partners locally and provincially to roll out the vaccinations across our Region.

 

The COVID-19 Immunization Clinic will be set up at an off-site location in close proximity to the Hospital. It is anticipated that the Clinic will operate twelve (12) hours per day, seven (7) days per week.? The days and hours of operation may fluctuate based on the available vaccine supply.? Community Partners will also support the operation of this Clinic.

 

We are seeking expressions of interest from staff who are able to work in the COVID-19 Immunization Clinic.? Individuals may be redeployed or may have an opportunity to temporarily increase their FTE while working in the Clinic.

Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre (TBRHSC) is a state‑of‑the‑art, 375 bed, acute care facility serving

the healthcare needs of people living in Thunder Bay and N.W.O. The organization is focused on providing patient

and family centred care in an academic learning environment.  To fulfill its teaching and research strategic goals,

TBRHSC supported (in 2007‑08) the creation of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Research Institute (TBRHRI), as a

not‑for‑profit and independent research corporation but closely affiliated with the Health Sciences Centre.  Through

the partnership, TBRHRI and TBRHSC are advancing the academic research mandate and strengthening our

collective role as a leader in health innovation.  

 

The TBRHSC is also the home of a new state of the art cyclotron and Radiopharmacy program.  This facility utilizes

an Advanced Cyclotron Systems Inc. (ACSI) TR24 PET Cyclotron to provide a research facility for the production of

new radiotracers, biomarkers and unique isotopes for TBRHRI Scientists as well as Lakehead University faculty. The

facility will also provide PET radiopharmaceuticals used in the PET/Nuclear Medicine program at the TBRHSC.

 

We are currently seeking candidates for the following position:

 

Research Intern (1 Year Contract)

 

The Intern will be devoted to the support of a medical/research cyclotron.  The Intern will be involved with quality

control procedures associated with radiopharmaceuticals, maintaining a GMP sterile environment, assisting with

Health Canada regulations for radiopharmaceutical manufacturing facilities, and adhering to strict Standard

Operating Procedures (SOP's) related to radiation safety and radiopharmaceutical production. Specifically, the Intern

will learn how to safely perform quality control testing on the manufactured drug product(s) and perform

environmental monitoring in the production facility.

 

The ideal candidate will have a degree or diploma in microbiology, biology or chemistry. Preference will be given to

candidates with previous chemistry or microbiology laboratory experience. Strong writing skills and proficiency using

Research Assistant Internship #8503536 (1 Year Contract)

 

The individual filling this position works closely with the TBRHRI Scientists and their time is devoted to the support

and enabling of research. Specifically, the Intern will assist the Scientist with human and animal lung, brain, and

biosensor MRI projects, and comparing different imaging methods. Further, the intern will help with various

administrative study tasks including assisting with study regulatory documents for the REB, Health Canada, and

Animal Care Committee (ACC), scheduling meetings, organizing research experiments, contributing to annual

reports and grant proposal writing, and other lab‑related tasks. From time to time, the intern will also assist with other

Reporting to the Director of Cyclotron Operations (DOC), the Cyclotron Associate may be

assigned to one of the three associate positions: Operator, Production Chemist, or Quality Control.

During these assignments they will be responsible for the safe operations of the TR‑24 cyclotron

under a Quality Management system to safely meet production and research demands. The Cyclotron

Associate may operate synthesis units for the production of radiopharmaceuticals for human use and

may be responsible for the final testing of any radiopharmaceuticals prior to them being released for

human use. All tests carried out will be done through adherence to strict Standard Operating

Procedures (SOPs) and release criteria which must be documented for regulatory compliance. In this

role, you will ensure that the requirements of preventative maintenance, radiation safety and Health

Canada licensing commitments are met.

program to ensure facility compliance with applicable government regulations and GMP guidelines.

* Develop and maintain Quality Systems in accordance with Health Canada regulations

* Act as independent authority on all aspects of quality pertaining to radiopharmaceutical production

* Act as the batch release authority for radiopharmaceuticals intended for human use

* Lead the process for corrective actions and close out of investigations of deviations related to Corrective and

Preventative Actions (CAPAs) and Out of Specification (OOS) reports

* Conduct training in quality related issues as required

* Lead the processing and tracking of product complaints, recalls and adverse drug reaction assessments and

submissions of related reports to Health Canada

* Coordinate internal audits / self inspections to ensure company operations and documentation are in compliance

with International Council for Harmonisation (ICH), Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), applicable regulations and

company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

* Review SOPs, test methods, deviations, investigations, change controls, Certificates of Analysis (CoAs), protocols

and reports

* Lead the development of QA metrics

Reporting to the Manager   Perioperative Services, you will be responsible for providing quality nursing care to

patients including complex patient populations whose outcomes are not predictable. As part of a multidisciplinary

health care team, you will practice within the Professional Standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario, the

Philosophy of patient and family centered care, mission vision, values       and the policies of Thunder Bay Regional

Health Sciences Centre.

 

Applicants must have the following qualifications:

*  Current unrestricted registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario

*  Current certification in BCLS

*  Certification from a formal Perioperative Nursing Course or demonstrated continuing education in Perioperative

Nursing

*  Recent knowledge in Perioperative Nursing with experience in circulating and scrubbing for a variety of surgical

procedures, sterile technique and maintaining the sterile environment, wound management and infection control,

laser technique, hemodynamic monitoring, pneumatic tourniquets, and electrosurgical units

*  Recent knowledge in Surgical Nursing with experience caring for pre and postoperative surgical patients

*  Ability to use the Nursing Process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation) in conjunction with her/his

basic and ongoing knowledge to arrive at individualized care planning and delivery

*  Collaborates and provides consult to Registered Practice Nurse's when patients assigned to the RPN become

unstable or have outcomes that are not as expected

*  Identify and recognize abnormal or unexpected patient responses and take appropriate action

*  Ability to simultaneously manage multiple nursing interventions

*  Strong interprofessional and communication skills

 

In addition to the above qualifications, preference will be given to applicants who:

*  Have a certification, or recent continuing education in Perioperative Nursing

 

On‑call availability is a requirement for these positions.

 

 

Salary Range:  $33.560 to 48.050
