Reporting to the Manager Adult Mental Health Services, the Psychologist/Psychological Associate will be responsible for providing a full scope of psychological services to clients with acute and chronic psychiatric illness within an acute mental health inpatient unit. The Psychologist/Psychological Associate will conduct and/or supervise psychological assessments and provide individual and group psychological treatment within an adult population. Treatment focus will be brief models of therapy. The incumbent will also provide consultation to other members of the team as required and contribute to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre's commitment to research and academics including providing clinical supervision to learners.

 

Qualifications:

*  Documentation of registration or eligibility for registration as a Psychologist  with the College of Psychologists of

Ontario (CPO) prior to commencing employment (required)

*  Able to obtain declared competency for Assessment/Evaluation and Intervention/Consultation in Clinical

Psychology for Adults, ability to obtain declared competency in Clinical Neuropsychology an asset

*  Demonstrated competencies in consultation and leadership in an interprofessional treatment team context in

healthcare

*  Evidence of prior practice in adult clinical psychology (preferred)

*  Evidence of competency and innovation in treatment program design and evaluation of treatment outcomes

*  Ability to work flexibly in an interprofessional team setting

*  Demonstrated knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Health Care Consent Act and Substitute Decision Act

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) works within the framework of nursing as member of the interprofessional healthcare

team to provide and enhance acute pain management for inpatients.  As the Acute Pain Service (APS) is an

Anesthesiologist directed and consultation based team, the NP works cohesively and in collaboration with the APS

Anesthesiologist. The NP role will focus primarily on clinical practice requiring advanced clinical assessment, clinical

reasoning, pharmacology, and communication skills to formulate an optimal acute pain management plan.  The NP

will also provide leadership to support the incorporation of and adherence to evidence‑based interdisciplinary acute

pain management practices within the APS team itself as well as throughout the organization.

The Nurse Practitioner reports primarily to the Director of Surgical and Ambulatory Care services with a matrix

reporting relationship to the Chief Nursing Officer, and accountability to the Chief of Anesthesiology.  Care is

provided within the scope of practice of an RN (EC) and as outlined in the APS NP collaborative practice agreement,

any care that that is outside of the NP legislated scope of practice will be authorized through the use of medical

directives and direct orders.  Anesthesiologist(s) will partner with the NP routinely and provide direction related to

development, implementation and amendment of patient care plans.  NP practice addresses the five domains of

Advanced Practice Nursing: Clinical Practice, Collaboration, Research, Leadership, and Change Agent.  The

percentage of time dedicated to each of these domains is variable, based on the program needs and will evolve with

the program.
