The TBRHSC Paediatric Bariatric Program will serve Thunder Bay and the NW Ontario Region (LHIN 14) remote to

tertiary paediatric obesity care centres.  Treatment will include secondary and appropriate tertiary levels of care

including coordinated psycho social, nutrition, physical activity, and/or pharmacotherapeutic interventions. Treatment

focus will include intensive promotion of healthy behaviors to treat and/or prevent progression of obesity related risk

factors; and treatment / reversal of co morbidities and prevention of further co morbidity in consultation and shared

care to tertiary care centres as appropriate.

 

The Psychologist has a direct reporting relationship to the Manager, Complex and Chronic Diseases and matrix

reporting relationship for psychology practice to the Director, Health Professions and Collaborative Practice.. The

Psychologist is responsible for provision of psychological services including diagnosis, assessments, consultation

and treatment primarily to the clients of the Paediatric Bariatric Program.

 

Qualifications/Experience

* Doctoral or Masters Degree from a Psychology program acceptable for registration with the College of

Psychologists of Ontario.

* Current registration with the College of Psychologists of Ontario or the ability to be autonomously registered within

a two year period with a declared area of practice in Clinical and/or Health Psychology with Children and/or

Adolescents

* Member in good standing with Ontario Psychological Association an asset

* Minimum two years recent supervised experience working with paediatric patients and families in a clinic setting

and working in an inter professional team environment

* Relevant supervised clinical experience with obese clientele is preferred

* Experience with group education; presentation and public speaking an asset.

 

Skills / Competencies

* Strong psychological assessment and therapeutic skills, including the ability to work well with other professionals

and community agencies

* Knowledge of chronic disease prevention and management

* Patient and family teaching, wellness promotion and Self Management of Chronic Disease

* Sound knowledge and understanding in Paediatric Growth, Development and youth transitioning

* Act as a resource person for childhood obesity education, based on collaboration with inter professional team and

community partners

* Demonstrated critical thinking, problem solving and conflict resolution skills

* Strong interpersonal and communication skills

* Advanced computer skills

* Be able to work flexible hours (e.g. weekday late afternoon and early evening)

 

 

Salary Range:  $53.190 to 67.800
