                                                                          1A Oncology Medicine


**Float = this position does not have a master rotation.

Reporting to the Manager of Oncology Nursing Services, you will be responsible for providing quality nursing care to

patients admitted to 1A Oncology Medicine whose outcomes are not predictable. As part of a multidisciplinary health

care team, you will practice within the Standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario, the Standards of Care identified

by CANO and CCO, the Philosophy and Values of Nursing Services and the policies of the Hospital.


Applicants must the following qualifications:

*  Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario

*  Current certification in BCLS

*  deSouza Provincial Standardized Chemotherapy & Biotherapy Certification course

*  Two years experience in Oncology Nursing with demonstrated experience and knowledge of all aspects of

Oncology treatments, including but not limited to Radiation Therapy & Chemotherapy

*  Administration, Toxicity Assessment, Oncology Emergencies and Clinical Trials.


In addition, applicants must have skill and experience in the following elements of nursing practice:

*  Physical Assessment

*  Intravenous Therapy and Intravenous Initiation

*  Competency in and experience with central venous access devices;

*  Aseptic Technique and Body Substance Precautions

*  Practicing as a partner on multidisciplinary teams

*  Patient and family teaching

*  Critical thinking, problem solving and conflict resolution

*  Radiotherapy and chemotherapy patient assessments

*  Toxicity grading and management

*  Advanced knowledge in oncology emergency assessments and interventions

*  Advanced pain and symptom management

*  Effective and positive patient/family intervention and teaching skills

*  Genetic counseling, prevention and screening, and clinical trials

*  Experience with and knowledge of care of immunosuppressed patients (oral care, wound prevention, wound care,

safety precautions)

*  CNA Oncology certification when the complement of oncology work hours/experience criteria has been met

*  Demonstrate good time management skills, commitment to personal and professional educational enhancement,

demonstrated positive team relationships



Salary Range:  $33.230 to 47.570
