This position is responsible for the overall information technology framework of Thunder Bay Regional Health

Sciences Centre and St. Joseph's Care Group. The role of the IT Director is to ensure the alignment of Information

Technology's enabling capabilities with the organizational objectives and corporate strategies. The Director will plan,

coordinate, direct and design IT‑related activities of the organizations, as well as provide administrative direction and

support for daily operational activities of the IT department. The IT Director will work closely with decision‑makers in

other departments to identify, recommend, develop, implement and support cost‑effective technology solutions for all

aspects of the organization. The IT Director will also define and implement IT policies, procedures and best practices.

 

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

 

Knowledge

*  Knowledge financial and administrative procedures, to manage and control allocated financial and material

resources, including developing annual budgets, and managing assets and contract service providers.

*  Knowledge in human resources practices, policies, and directives in relation to recruitment, training and

development and labour relations to support an inclusive and engaged team;

*  Knowledge in project management principles and methodologies to manage the delivery of program plans,

initiatives and goals.

*  Knowledge of large‑scale enterprise IS&IT systems, infrastructure and technology concepts, principles, standards

(e.g. hardware, software alternatives, tools and virtualization technologies, specialty hosting services architecture,

networks, security, storage and backup, and integration); systems operations, management processes, and

performance management; infrastructure‑related product and service catalogue offerings; green technology

operations; version control and release management standards, procedures, and tools; SLA commitments; and

current and emerging I&IT industry trends and developments industry that impact client business delivery that meet

business requirements in order to lead and direct their development, provision, support, and ongoing improvements.

*  Knowledge of client IS &IT environments (e.g. network devices, capacity, security, contingency planning, and

network services), customer applications, and their relationships with  in order to provide technical advice to staff

engaged in the problem resolution process.

*  Knowledge of Standard Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) and Information Technology Service

Management (ITSM) processes, frameworks, best practices, and methodologies to lead QA processes prior to

implementing new or updated processes, and manage the planning and provision of cost effective production control

services that meet client business needs.

*  Knowledge of information systems development and methodologies, application architecture, information

technology hardware and software to: plan, lead and evaluated business technical needs; lead the development of

consistent integrated applications and associated standards and support tools; ensure consistency and compliance

with current and planned enterprise technologies; provide leadership and technical advice to senior management and

clients; ensure effective delivery of comprehensive application development and maintenance services; and to

optimize return on investment.

*  Knowledge of IT security methodologies, tools, techniques, security architectures, risk management concepts and

practices, and industry trends to direct the design, development, and maintenance of comprehensive and detailed

business continuity plans (BCP) business resumption and computer disaster recovery plans (DRP) and strategies to

identify and manage security risks, and provide advice to clients on business continuity requirements.

Education & Experience

*  University degree in the field of computer science and 10 years related work experience. Master of Business

Administration with technology as a core component preferred.

*  5+ years managerial experience

*  Extensive application support experience.

*  Proven experience in IT infrastructure planning and development
