                                                                1 ‑ Part Time (.5) ‑ Composite ‑ RN

                                            Paediatric Inpatient Unit & Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

**Composite = the successful candidates will be required to work in Paediatric Inpatient Unit & Neonatal

Intensive Care Unit with Paediatric Inpatient Unit as the home unit.


Reporting to the Manager   Neonatal Intensive Care and Paediatric Services, you will be responsible for providing

quality nursing care to patients including complex patient populations whose outcomes are not predictable. As part of

a multidisciplinary health care team, you will practice within the Standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario, the

Philosophy and Values of Nursing Services and the policies of the Hospital.


Applicants must have the following qualifications:

*  Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario

*  Current certification in BCLS

*  Two years experience in Neonatal/Paediatric Nursing

*  Paediatric related nursing specialty course preferred

*  Certification, or recent continuing education in Neonatal/Paediatric Nursing is preferred


In addition, applicants must have skill and experience in the following elements of nursing practice:

*  Physical Assessment

*  Intravenous Therapy and Intravenous Initiation

*  Central Venous Line Management

*  Aseptic Technique and Body Substance Precautions

*  Practicing as a partner on multidisciplinary teams

*  Patient and family teaching

*  Critical thinking, problem solving and conflict resolution


In addition to the above qualifications, preference will be given to applicants who

*  Recent experience working in Paediatrics

*  Have newborn and Paediatric assessment skills in all age groups

*  Have knowledge and expertise in promoting growth and development

*  Proficient with procedures related to the care and management of patients with complex, chronic and life limiting


*  Demonstrated knowledge of providing pre and post operative care to patients undergoing surgical procedures

* Have experience working with cardio/respiratory monitors, oximeters and mechanical ventilators

* Are certified in umbilical line sampling and are competent in CVL and port a cath access

* Are proficient at performing all the required procedures related to the care of the critically ill newborn (i.e. intubation,

ventilation, IV initiation, blood sampling etc..)

* Have experience initiating care of the newborn at a delivery or C/S

* Have knowledge and experience assisting mothers with the initiation and ongoing support of breast feeding

* Can apply the nursing process to the care of newborns and up to the age of 16 years.

* Demonstrated ability to work effectively individually and within a team setting in a fast paced, changing environment

* Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills

* Proficient in the use of computer applications such as Groupwise, MS Office and Meditech


Completion/certification in the following courses would be considered an asset:

*   Neonatal Resuscitation Program

*   Non‑violent Crisis Intervention

*   20 hour Breastfeeding Course



Salary Range:  $33.230 to 47.570
