                                              1 ‑ Full Time ‑ Charge Nurse(.6) /Registered Nurse(.4)

                                                                           3E Intensive Care Unit

 

Reporting to the Manager ‑ Critical Care Services, the Charge Nurse will be responsible for

supervising and coordinating the day‑to‑day management of the Critical Care Department. As part of a

multidisciplinary health care team, he/she will practice within the Standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario, the

Philosophy and Values of Nursing Services and the policies of the Hospital.

 

Applicants must have the following qualifications:

*  Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario

*  Current certification for all skills required in Critical Care ie. ACLS, TNCC, PALS

*  At least five years full time (or equivalent) experience with competencies in all ANS & DCAs current

*  Proven skills in communication, negotiation, conflict resolution and critical thinking with the multidisciplinary team

*  Commitment to critical care standards of practice and Best Practice Guidelines for quality patient care

*  Knowledge of departmental operations including staffing resource allocation, equipment/supplies management,

policies and protocols

*  Commitment to hospital and departmental values and philosophy

 

Responsibilities of the position of Charge Nurse include, but are not limited to:

*  Complete the shift assignment, shift report & CCIS database daily

*  Day‑to‑day planning and allocation of Critical Care resources: beds, staff, equipment and supplies

*  Coordinate morning rounds and planning of admissions, discharges and transfers

*  Provide professional and clinical consultation to nursing staff

*  Facilitating critical thinking and problem‑solving among members of the multidisciplinary team

*  Ensure positive inter‑ and intra‑departmental communication and liaisons

*  Assist in meeting the needs of family members of Critical Care patients, including conflict resolution and

responding to

complaints

*  Assist in meeting the needs of Critical Care Clinicians

*  Ensure the identification and completion of quality management activities

*  Plan and coordinate orientation and preceptorship for new employees and students

*  Communicate and planne daily activities with the Manager and when required with the Medical Director

*  Assist with policy and procedure development, implementation and communication

*  Communicate unit/organizational notices

*  Facilitate staff attendence to education activites

*  Adherence to OH&S legislation and hospital policy and practice in a supervisory role

 

 

Salary Range:  $34.660 to 48.760
