                                                      1 ‑ Temporary Part Time (.3) ‑ Unit Care Aide

                                                                        Nursing Resource Team

It is a condition of this posting that your home unit can accommodate your temporary absence in the event

you are successful.



This position will involve working the day, evening, weekend, night, ex tour shifts.  The shift is not to be interpreted as

a guarantee.



Reporting to the Manager   Nursing Resource Team in collaboration with the unit manager and accountable to the

patient's assigned Nurse, the Unit Care Aide provides constant or close observation of patients for the purpose of

advancing the patient's safety, and   according to policies and procedures at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences.

The Unit Care Aide will also when required provide care to the patients by performing a variety of tasks that will

provide support to the nursing staffs of the unit.




*  Students currently enrolled in Health related programs will be considered

*  Experience in a health care related program or support worker program

*  Strong interpersonal and communication skills

*  Ability to use good judgment in assessing difficult situations

*  Demonstrate a patient centered approach to providing care and services

*  Experience working in a health care environment

*  CPR certification required

*  Students enrolled in Health Programs will be considered


The Unit care Aide will also be able to perform the following skills and duties:


*  Assist clients with bathing, grooming and dressing, and other personal hygiene activities

*  Helps prepare meal trays for patients (i.e. opening lids, cutting meat, etc.). 

*  Feed clients and, when required, measure intake and output

*  Assist with bed transfers, lifting, turning, walking and crutch walking

*  Assist with toileting, including use of bedpan, commode or toilet

*  Empty ostomy bags, collect stool specimens and assist with toileting

*  Assist patients with transfers and ambulation including use of cane, walker and wheelchair

*  Answers call bells and relays messages as required.

*  Informs the primary care nurse of any patient concerns.

*  Ensure the safety of their clients, themselves and others



Salary Range:  $20.532
